Philhellenic Clocks

"Philhellenism" is a term appeared in 1761. By 18th century this term was used to mention the ideological and political movement, which developed mostly in Europe and America and aimed to both moral and material support of the Greeks against the Turks during the Revolution of 1821. Philhellenism was expressed in many ways. During many other actions, press campaigns were organized informing people about the Revolution, lithographs were printed and many everyday objects, depicting scenes related to the Greek Revolution such as dishes, soaps and clocks, started traded.
Below there is a presentation of "Philhellenic Clocks". These clocks were produced in France during the period 1825-1870. All of them are tabletop with pendulum, decorated with philhellenic projects and brought in French urban homes messages from the Greek Revolution. These watches were manufactured by philhellenists French artists and most of them are bronze and gold plated. They were sold in the French market in order to reinforce the Greek Revolution with money and munitions.
